Simply Changing Your Thoughts

   From the time that we are born, until we die, we program our brains. Some of these systems are great! For instance, breathing, eating, and drinking water, but we may also have some bad encoding, and or beliefs. I was having trouble losing weight and keeping it off. I began to pay attention to the thoughts that I was having about it. I would always tell myself, how hard it was to lose weight, and keeping it off was harder. I wanted to find a way to change these thoughts. I threw it out into the Universe, and I was introduced to Riley Dayne’s movie The Abundance Factor. Amongst many great ideas, Riley had a technique that I found to be especially interesting. Grab some sticky notes and a sharpy and meet me back here in five! 

    O.K. great, now think about an area of your life that you want to improve. Examples: Spend more time with family, make more money, become more spiritual, lose weight, or improve relationships. Now think of any limited beliefs that you have. For instance, Losing weight is hard, I can never get along with my family, or I am always broke. Once you identify and limiting beliefs or as Riley Dayne calls them, “abundance blockers.” You can then use opposite phrases to retrain your brain. Now, write down the positive programming phrases onto the sticky notes. These are the ones I use, instead of saying, “Working out is hard.” I now say, “Getting in shape is super easy!” 

    Next, go around your house, and put these sticky notes on to all of the light switches that you use the most. This is the part of the movie that I found to be so interesting, Rylie says when you go to turn on or off the light, you say what is going to happen, “I am going to flip this switch, and the light will turn on.” You flip the switch and the light comes on. Your brain says, “That is true, the light turned on.” Your brain now believes whatever you say next. This is where you add in your positive programming, “I get along great with my family.” Your brain says, “O.K. that sounds good!” After I did this for about a month I really began to notice my thoughts changing. 

   I am not ready to take down my weight loss sticky notes, but I am eager to try this technique in other areas of my life. There are several ways to reprogram your brain. The goal is always to evaluate each area of your life that you seem to struggle with, identify the limiting beliefs or thoughts, and replace it with a phrase that is dripping positivity. Life is a continuous progression towards greatness. The work can be difficult at times, but the rewards are remarkable! Thank you again for reading my blog. I’m excited to grow more next week.
